Diary reminders

Fri, 11/13/2009 - 08:16

Hi everyone,

Anyone having trouble setting up to have reminders from your diary sent to your phone by text message? If your cell phone carrier is not there, let us know and we'll try to get it added. If it's there but not working right, let us know that too so we can fix it for you. I've found the reminder system great - every day I get text and email reminders about my medicines and then when doctor appts are coming up. Certainly helps me!

Hope rest is going ok and you've had a chance to start a diary. Let me know if you have any trouble or just have questions! When you have a doctor's appointment, don't forget to print out a report and take it to him or her. I'd love to hear if it's helpful or not!

Take care and have a great day!

Hello,

I have a general comment/enquiry about the diary and the side-effects section  Trying to determine which symptoms are related to the medication you take is very difficult and in many instances can only be guesswork, as symptoms listed as side-effects can also be linked to seizures or a co-existing condition.  Any suggestions?

You are right - it is hard to sort out what symptoms or problems may be due to medicines, seizures or some other problem. That's why keeping track of symptoms is real helpful. For example, if a person with epilepsy has headaches or dizziness, then keeping track of when the problems occur and how long they last can help you and the doctor sort out what may be causing the problem.

So when people use the diary, don't worry what may be causing a 'side effect', just write it down and keep track of it. You can use a 'note' to write more about the problem, such as how long it lasted or when it occurred - for example did it happen after taking the medicine or maybe before or after a seizure?

It's not your job to tell what's causing a problem, but it is your job to tell the doctors, nurses and those you work with how you feel - only you can do that!  I hope using the diary this way will help make it easier to do this! Let me know it if works!

(Please note that I'm using the term 'you' and 'your' to mean the person with seizures, parents, or other caregivers who may be in position to observe and record symptoms and seizures.)
