Topamax - what's it like?

Hi
I am taking tegretol retard and keppra at the moment.
Yesterday when I saw my doctor, he has prescribed me to go on topamax and when on the full dosage, I can then come off the keppra gradually.
I dont know much about topamax.
My doctor said there are 3 types of side effects some people get when taking topamax:
1. tingling in hands and feet
2. weight loss
3. memory loss
Has anyone had any of these experiences with this drug?
Please let me know what this drug is like, I dont want to end up with memory loss and weight loss.
My doctor said that when people hear weight loss might happen they are delighted but it can be fatal if the drug is taken still even after noticing weight loss because you keep loosing the weight and is not good for you.
Any comments on this, please feel free.
I'm a bit anxious about taking it.

Hi I was on tompomax for 4 years, had all the symptoms. The worst is the memory loss, that's why I got off it. But if you've gained weight from previous meds; try topomax, it will take the pounds off, quickly; I think I should have gotten off it sooner, but since I wasn't having seizures I stayed with it. The weight stablized to a comfortable loss and if I hadn't started having the tingling and memory loss i'd probably still be on it. Now I'm on keppr..... gained the weight back, I hate it.

Hi LunaBelle,
I just had a warning or aura before typing this.
I'm used to these now.
Keppra helped me a little bit but not control my seizures 100%.
This is why I'm going on topamax and see if it helps.

Hi Brenda I have just started taking the meds 2 days ago. I'm only on 25mg a day for now, will be working up to 200mg a day in the next 8 weeks. Thanks for the website info, I'll take a look at that now. I'm drinking plenty of water to avoid kidney stones and I have weighed myself 2 days ago to see if my weight changes. I only finished my exams last Friday and I'm back at work today.This is why I left topamax til 2 days ago to start taking it. I didn't fancy memeory loss during the exams! I dont know if side effects have hit me yet. I was a bit hormonal on Saturday night and taste in my tea yesterday tasted different but I'm not sure if that's because it was strong or not.
