Tegretol

Mon, 12/12/2005 - 08:28
I am currently taking Carbamazepine (Tegretol) 400mg to be upped every 2 weeks until my seizures stop. Question is - Will I feel like a zombie forever? I know most meds make you feel drowsy and everyone is different but seriously do all meds make you feel like you're on another planet?

I am on 200mgs of Tegretol CR a day. I don't know what it is about ppl who have "gained weight". I am the total opposite. I've LOST weight! 15lbs to be exact. I've only been on these meds for about a year now. I guess it has different effects on everyone. I also get a mild facial pain....gets annoying sometimes but i am used to it by now.

Hi Butterfly, I will have to say thet when I was placed on Depakote at the age of 12 I began gaining wait untill I was a size 15 throughout my teens and early 20's. When I was 22 I was switched from Depakote to Tegretol and within 8 weeks went down to a junior's size 3 which I still am to this day. I think that was the only side effect I got with the Depakote except for being nauseous the first couple weeks while gettin adjusted to it. Susan

Hi I have been on Tegretol since I was 14 years old, now 30. I was switched to Tegretol Retard afew years ago which is basically the same drug, just a slower process of going going into the blood stream. This was the first med that was given to me out of everything I have been on so far and I have never stopped taking it. It never stopped my seizures fully, but it helped and didn't give me any side effects either. Tegretol is an old drug but is considered as a successful one, not for everyone obviously, but it is a very well known med for epilepsy as it has helped many people in some way or another. I have to take additional meds on top of this to try and control my condition but I have to say I have n othing against tegretol myself personally. Meds effects everyonje differently. I hope it gets better for you :) Quirky
