Tegretol

Mon, 12/12/2005 - 08:28
I am currently taking Carbamazepine (Tegretol) 400mg to be upped every 2 weeks until my seizures stop. Question is - Will I feel like a zombie forever? I know most meds make you feel drowsy and everyone is different but seriously do all meds make you feel like you're on another planet?

Did you ever get back on the depokote. I grew up taking it. In the summer switched from depokote to Keppra and lamactal. Just told a new dr I miss my Depokote. He put me on one pill of depokote ER along with the keppra and lamactal

I know, I took Depakote from the time I was 12. I don't know if I can get put back on it, the doctor says I have too many different kinds now. My doctor can't keep raising the med levels, or put me on more than 2 kinds of meds at once because I'm a small-framed person and I will get overmedicated REALLY easily. As soon as that insurance policy kicks in I'm going to a different neuro to see what other options I have. I know I'm a candidate for surgery, but even with health coverage I can't survive not working, and only have the dog to look after me afterwords. I will probably never opt for surgery, so I'll see what this new doctor has to say. How have you been feeling, better I hope? Susan

I am 46 years old and began with Tegretol at the age of 24. I remember being tired a lot. I stopped taking it a year later, and had another grand mal, so never stopped it again. Since then I had two babies, at the ages of 32 and 36, and nursed both of them. I always am tired, but don't know if that's the result of the medicine or being a mom, or working full time, or everything together! But I distinctly remembering feeling very tired at the beginning. Either it's worn off, or I'm used to it now. I take it before going to bed, 400 mg.
