Tegretol

Mon, 12/12/2005 - 08:28
I am currently taking Carbamazepine (Tegretol) 400mg to be upped every 2 weeks until my seizures stop. Question is - Will I feel like a zombie forever? I know most meds make you feel drowsy and everyone is different but seriously do all meds make you feel like you're on another planet?

Hi angels and airwaves I am on Tegretol cr and I sometimes do feel like a zombie the only time I feel this way in first thing in the morning. How long have you been on your tegretol? I have felt like a zombie for the first couple of months now I am getting other side effects from it. But you should ask your doctor about feeling like a zombie maybe he will give you advice on what to do. I hope you can figure this out. From winnie

I was diagnosed with E at 12 years old, took Depakote for 12+ years, and was only experiencing side effects for about the first 2 to 3 months. When I was in my 20's I went from having 2 to having 4 different kinds of seizures and was switched to Tegretol. I hate the stuff. I was feeling like I was on another planet, and it never really went away, even after 5 years taking it. It gives you a very surreal feeling, and somewhat spacey. I eventually lost all my medical coverage and have been without the meds for about 7 years, but when my new insurance kicks in I will be begging my doctor NOT to put me back on the Tegretol, even if it means being sick to my stomach for 6 weeks while my body gets used to Depakote again. The side effects might go away, but if not, there has to be something else they can give you. Best of luck to you, Susan

Trileptal is a new drug, less side effect and is in the same family as tegretal. I am on trileptal and was on tegretal for 23 some years. WHen I was very tired I was dizzy at night after dinner. It was just about a regular ritual. Trileptal is better, but I had problems with low sodium. Trileptal can cause that in some people. SO I got off most of it.
