Side effects of Lamictal

Thu, 08/11/2005 - 20:15
I was wondering if anyone has heard of anyone on Lamictal getting Hypoglycemia or having the effects of Hypoglycemia?A couple of times since I been on this medication, I felt dizzy and was wondering if this is a side effect of the medication or if I did have low blood sugar cause of maybe too much medication. I had to start eating every two hours.I am on Lamictal, 250 mg, and Tegertol, 200 mg twice a day. I have to cut one pill in half. I been on this medication for about 3 months now, was on Dilantin with other meds. Erik

I started taking Lamictal 1 month ago.  Just recently I get up at 3am and I can't get back to sleep.  I also notice that I am hungry more often that I used to be.  I take 300mg/day.  I also take Keppra and Phenobarbital.

Before I started a job search, where I wasn't working for 6 months, I did not have many seizures.  Once I got a part time job my seizures increased from 2/month to 7/month.  It may be from the stress of job seeking combined with the fact that it's difficult to find and keep employment with a seizure disorder.  I get SSDI but I want to work part time.

Any suggestions on seeking employment?  Does anyone know companies that are not afraid to hire us with a seizure disorder?  From 1988-1998 I was seizure-free but I was on SSI and was in "supported employment" through VESID.  I was driving, went back to school, and was not married then.

However, I began working 60 hours/week and my seizures came back.  I also got married in 1998 because I was not having seizures.  I didn't want to put undue stress on a spouce.  Now, my seizures are back, I'm married, our finances are not the best, and I'm looking for work again.

I was just let go from a retail job because I had 4 seizures in 2 weeks on the job.  The HR Manager said that I told her that I only had 2 seizures/month.  Well, I guess I get stressed out at work while worrying that my wife feels that I'm holding her back in her career.  I told her that it may be better if I let her pursue her career and not be a burden to her, anymore.  I want to work, but it's difficult for me to find a noble employer and it's difficult for me to maintain employment once I find it.  I've been working for 18 years, on and off.
