How Many Drive?

Thu, 09/06/2007 - 12:38
I'm just curious how many people drive? I'm at the point where I am on medication, its been 4 months, and my doctor is okay with my driving again. I am just waiting for DMV's approval. My history is I have had (2) gran mal seizures in the past 3 1/2 years. One 3.5 years ago and one 4 months ago. I am now on Tegretol. I did not have any history of seizures prior to this (at least not known to us but the doctors suspects I might have unknowingly) and I found out it does run in the family. I am 40 years old. I am a super-busy mom. This has been so hard to deal with. I am very lucky because I have a wonderful support system to shuttle us about, but I know everyone must be getting weary although they NEVER complain to me. Public transportation in our city is not only a joke-- it is unsafe. Part of me can't wait to get my license back. The other part of me is scared to death. I have already told my support system even if DMV does give me my license back there will still be days I won't want to drive. There are days the meds really get to me. I can handle the nausea, but there are days I feel "weak". I don't want to risk driving if I don't feel 100%. I would never risk my family-- or anyone else's. How does everyone cope with this? How do you cope with the physical as well as the emotional part? Thanks for any input. ~ Believe

I do not drive anymore no do I ever intend to do so again.  The public transport in my country is very good but I don't like using it.  No will I cycle any where.  Believe it or not I now have a fear of walking across a busy road in case I get flattend by the public transport I could be using.  As for the idiots (and dangerous idiots at that) who try to make excuses for driving again more fool you!  Just think how you would feel if you ran over a child because you had a break through episode.  What excuse would you come up for that.  There are solutions for every problem it's just a case of finding it!

my brother got killed by a drunken idiot who wouldn't know responsiblity if it bit him. Hated driving since I got my first licence. Hit a library . Miserable depth perception , lousy aim and cannot pass the field sobriety test sober.

Having a seizure gets me out of driving which makes grocery shopping a bit challenging but that's ok my real problem is it makes it difficult to get to the pub and tommorrows the visit with the doctor to find out the place the seizures start and where to go from here.  Or have I just simply lost my mind which is probably a more accurate thing and actually would not affect my license to drive yet being crazy is rather a nuicanse.  It means I can't do certain thingsbut madness is no cause for revocation of a license to drive otherwise 90% of Americans would not be able to drive because there are crazier people than I am who I think should not be on the roads and they scare me.  I think it may have been triggered by emotions.  For once I hope I'm just crazy it'd be easier to deal with than brain damage.  I haven't had any recent head injury

What theory would that be? Because if that's the case, I should already be dead, but still live with uncontrolled, over-medicated Epilepsy. I wouldn't want to be you involved in an accident as you try to explain that one to the judge.
