Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

Tue, 05/12/2009 - 08:49

I am at wits end for my daughter. Diagnosed 4 years ago. Have not yet found a med that works for her. Lately she has constant seveer leg pain/tingling. She has to get up and walk around saying Ow OW OW OW  till it subsides.  Yesterday she had 7 eposides - 2 of which went into seizures.  Today looks like another day of the same.  First leg feeling at 5am and again on bus en route to school. Has anyone had similar expereices?????

We are not getting anywhere with our docs.

Thanks.

Re leg twitches + pain: POSSIBLE TEMPORARY CURE: PICO-IONIC MAGNESIUM. Suggest people read entire post for pros, cons. Also welcome suggestions. My 90+ godmother has exactly the symptoms at the top of this page... including ow ow ow. Firstly she had typical "restless legs." Non painful but prevents sleep. I treated her successfully with a few drops on legs of "Source Gamma E 400," COQ10 and full capsules of wheat germ oil. Based on my stopping sports-induced night  twitching by eating 6 wheat germ oil capsules daily. This based on a 1970's Prevention article, "Vitamin E Cures Restless Legs." Wheat germ oil has relatively little vitamin E--and large amounts can stress the digestion. And I have tried so many antioxidants that any antioxidants tend to give me headaches, swollen tongue, etc. But wheat germ oil has special properties such as neutralizing excess uric acid. So I thought it prudent to use small amounts of each--except externally there seems no downside to large amounts of wheat germ oil. So this might work as well without the wheat germ oil. But I caution against more than a few drops of vitamin E and COQ10 on a daily basis--and external use directly on sore or twitching muscles seems more sensible than swallowing capsules. Anyway this worked. What did not work was "restful legs" homeopathic pills. And essential oil "leg tranquilizers" such as lavender oil. Although I have read of these working if applied with lengthy massages. Also "magnesium cream" did not seem to help. Incidentally there are homeopathic "leg cramp" and "menstrual cramp" formulas,  very effective against all types of cramps. In the past these contained quinine.  I stopped using homeopathics for cramps after finding that potassium citrate does as well and is obviously more basic nutritionally. However now I will get some "homeopathic leg cramps" for my godmother because her "restless legs" seem combined with cramp-like symptoms and potassium is not working....... Continued next message….

(Continued from previous message below.) Here is my big story...... Last year my godmother's twitching got worse, shaking her entire body and with added cramp-like pains....... and although "magnesium cream" did not seem to help--I decided to try magnesium seriously based on numerous internet listings...... and after reading the numerous labels, I eventually discovered that some magnesium is far more refined to absorb through skin.... This is "pico ionic." So after wetting the skin, I then applied a full teaspoon to each leg--then repeated after drying under a space heater--then applied some body lotion due to the resulting dryness.  The first night saw little result. But the second night there was no twitching at all. And for three more days and nights, no twitching at all--in spite of no further applications.... However twitching eventually returned.... And I decided to gradually phase-out this super-refined magnesium due to potential side effects.... Also before this leg treatment, I first tried giving 2 standard chelated magnesium-potassium capsules whenever she woke up twitching. This totalled about 8 pills per night and seemed to stop the twitching. However it caused diarrhea and that is why I switched to the leg treatment.... But there was evidence that any magnesium could be helpful. And she was getting blood on tissues when blowing her nose. And I have experienced similar effects when taking a lot of vitamin C. Which like magnesium is somewhat of a "blood thinner." And so I always take 1/4 tablet chewable calcium citrate whenever I take magnesium or vitamin C. And especially avoid "metabolite C" due to bad effects spite of taking extra calcium. But returning to the story.... I was in the process of transitioning away from pico  magnesium.... and also intending to add trace minerals including asperagus extract, multi-minerals, silica, etc...... but my godmother decided she was "cured" and shut down the entire process. Now two weeks later her twitches are worse and the pico magnesium no longer works. I suspect it worked before partly because of long term use of vitamin E and COQ10.  So we are restarting from scratch.  But several days may be needed to produce results.... Also meanwhile my godmother's knees are getting very painful... probably due to excessive magnesium...But also note... entire pain-twitching seems started by constipation causing moderate doses of psyllium pills and herbal laxatives for three months. In my experience--one psyllium is healthy but more than that can cause an increased need for potassium and presumably any mineral. So in brief--it seems best to eat apples and "triple washed organic spring greens" for fiber and maybe 1 psyllium or Colon Green. I caution against more psyllium and especially against herbal stool softeners...... because..... chelated magnesium-potassium capsules are effective stool softeners...... and obviously will not cause magnesium or potassium depletion!
