photosensitive diagnosis 7 yr old?

Hi,I,m a new member neurotic mom of a seven yr old girl.I was falling asllep one night, she was nest to me, I hada "normal Jerk". when this happened, she informed me that she gets jerks and shakes on the playground "only in one area of the playground. I thought she was crazy till i started reading about photosensitive epilepsy. She is scheduled for aan eeg on wednesday mar. 24th.I am discouraged because of so many reports that eegs are not always accurate in diagnosing seizures. she describes the seizure in great detail: upper body stiffens, sholders up, head back hands with fingers straighted and pulled toward thumb, up on toes. It's amazing she has not fallen backward when you see the position she is in. she also hears echos. lasts about 5 seconds. upon inspection of the area where this occurs, there is a fence with one inch slats, when you walk past, light flickers through. seven year olds do not make up this kind of detail. If anyone else has photosensitive epilepsy or has info on the diagnosis of such, can you please let me know? Also, if anyone has an idea of what type of seizure this may be classified as? thankyou!

I have read the entire group of postings and am still wondering why if she has had these at school (on the play ground) that no one from the school has informed you. Usually from what I have read, people over-react to any kind of jerky seisure activity. Has anyone seen these episodes, including students or classmates? Curious. --Mary

Hi Mary-,Katies "episodes" only last one to five seconds an from the way she looks when it happens (her demonstration) this movement could easily be mistaken as play behavior, especially if seen from behind or from a distance, however, if you werre looking right at her, you would definitely see it. She rises to her toes, slings head back with neck forward, shoulders up, arms clenched at side, fingers straightened and stiffened, knees bent. dont know. we see the nuerologist tommorow. Incidently, it has not happened since early March when she brought it to my attention. Thanks for your interest!

Hi anneellis,I have complex partial seizures, which occasionally generalize and become tonic-clonic. I have heard some people say that they weren't able to be diagnosed by an EEG, but I've never had that problem. I'm not sure how widespread of a problem that is. I'm sure that it's tough to stop worrying about it right now, but try to take it as it comes. Hopefully, the test will go fine and they'll be able to tell you exactly what's happening to your daughter.By the way, a hat is a great idea for afterward! I'll have to keep that in mind for the next time I get one done! Good luck and take care!Heather
