Does anyone have rapid heartbeats before a seizure??
Tue, 11/15/2005 - 09:33I am a 26 year old female and have had seizures for the about
6 years now. The cause is unknown. Every month or so I go
through "episodes" of rapid heartbeats. After a day or two they
stop and don't start again for another month. Other symptoms
include A tingling sensation, mood swings, and a really bad
taste in my mouth no matter how much listerine I gargle.
I don't always go into a seizure that lasts long but I have gone
into a grand-mal a couple times. The Dr. I've been seeing
doesn't think these episodes are seizure related and prescribed me paxil and then effixer. Neither worked and this Dr. suggested I see a shrink! I am changing to a new Dr. and am willing to have the brain surgery to stop these and have a normal life and eventually have children.

Hi there, it strange but i also get rapid heart beat before my seizures, the docs also dont think i have epilepsy...so i going private cos my docs havent done all the relevant tests to rule this out...grrr...you can get rapid heart beat if the neurones are firing deep in the brain, this also ties in with nausea and dizziness prior to a seizure-an aura. What is the taste in your mouth like? people do get that as an aura...it is usually described as a metallic taste but can take on other forms. My doc referred me to a shrink too and i have decided to get a second opinion, get one..and see te shrink, it doesnt mean u are making stuff up it means that ur brain may be firing chemical signals which cause seizures which are completely subconsious and u can make them happen, so dont worry if this ends up being the final diagnosis! do get a second opinion though and get ALL tests done eeg, veeg, aeeg, mri,ct...

Hi Emily and abrannon. Yes I get a very rapid Heart rate up to 120 bpm. I just got the Reveal Monitor implanted in my chest. My heart rate has also been known to drop too. So this little event recorder can catch those fluctutions. Or hopefully when the next seizure hits we will see what my heart rate did just before, during and after it.
