Deja vu

Tue, 04/05/2005 - 08:00

Hi, my name is Lisa and this is my first time posting.  I am 39 years and a mother of two daughters.  About 18 months ago, I had two experiences of deja vu.  After the deju vu feeling passed, I had a strange feeling in my stomach (like being on a rollercoaster).  These deja vu experiences were about a week apart and I believe only lasted a second or two.  About two weeks after these deja vu experiences and had a "doom" feeling.  I was in the bathroom and this intense feeling of dread happenned followed by that strange feeling in my stomach.  After these incidents I feel very "foggy" and tired.  I called my family practioner and he ordered an MRI which was "normal" and showed no lesions.  He asked if I wanted to see a neurologist but I declined because I thought it would never happen again.  Well it did--last Friday I had two more episodes of Deja Vu, once when I was laying in  bed and again about an hour later.  I know they were deja vu and at the time intense, however I cannot remember what the particular dream sequence was.  I called my family practioner and he has referred me to a neurolgist that specializes in seizure disorders.  I cannot get into the neurologist until late May? Am I on the right track here?  should I request certain tests?  does an EEG only show irregularities while having a seizure?  Also, I am afraid to drive in case one of these episodes occur.  Thanks!

Wow.... me too. I can't believe I never looked this up before. It started a few years ago (I'm 24 now), prolly when I was 19 or 20. The first time was intense... I was in the car as a passanger, and I had an overwealming feeling of Deja Vu... as if I had been there done that exact thing at the exact time everything same, then the sick feeling... stomach clenching sickness, dizziness up the ass, sweating and fear.  Afterwards I would be left with a empty cloudy feeling... for hours. I still get them every couple months now, I used to have them almost every day and it really messed me up, my friends would throw things at me or hit me to disrupt the Deja Vu... but sometimes its like I knew they were going to do that, and it would just get worse. Is this really Temperal Lobe Seizures or whatever? I'm scared now... not that i wasnt before, at least I might be close to understanding what this is... thanks for understanding everyone... I hope you all get better.

Keep your Peace

I pondered how and if to

I pondered how and if to respond to your post, Axlmoon. It is your business of course how you manage your health problems. As I look back, I had many of your symptoms as a young woman, but was misdiagnosed. Had I been diagnosed properly and treated correctly, perhaps my brain would not have 'learned' to have larger, more dangerous 'electrical storms,' like the one that landed me full on my head 5 months ago and caused a traumatic brain injury. The fact you came to this site means somebody or you yourself considered E. Know that partial seizures (like you MAY be experiencing) often don't show up on EEG's. Many neuros listen carefully to symptoms and on a case by case basis, will recommend treatment due to the reason above :our brains can learn to have BIGGER seizures, like I (and many others here) eventually had. :( Just wanted to present a flip side to your perspective; and I do sincerely wish you all the best. While I dislike the side effects of my medication at times , I dislike the thought of another major tonic clonic seizure even more...Kinda want to keep the remaining brain cells I have left. :)
