How to cope when you're almost ready to quit

Fri, 08/03/2007 - 12:33
I've never been bothered by my E before but everything's starting to go downhill because of my E and I'm having difficulty coping. I'm starting to get very deppressed. Any suggestions on how to cope?

I can relate to ya sorta biogal. It feels like my career got taken away from me back in December 2006 all because I don't have a driver's license because of E. Since then, every time I try to get a job in technology (which I've worked in for 10 years) people want a license! Then, if I take a look at jobs that don't require a license I get told I'm overqualified I'll be bored & move on to quick. I'm always like - what the hell is this?!? It's been almost 8 mths since that fell apart. I'm practically married to a guy I've been with for 5+ years (6 year anniversary is in October). He would love to be a full-time freelance writer, but it doesn't pay as well as him working full time in sales/telemarketing, so he has to work & hate it! I feel bad for that & there's times we fight because we barely get by! Life sucks, sure. The way I get by - I've found a lot of new fun hobbies - cooking, scrapbooking, learning HTML, new music, new books. And, each day I try to look on the bright side of things. I try to look at what's good about life & what I'm good at. Not how my life is going down hill & how it will never be fixed. In fact, in some ways, I'm sad - circumstances forced me to turn down a great job in the USA (I'm in Canada), so just after that I picked up a cool volunteer gig with a local epilepsy foundation. Try finding new hobbies, new volunteer gigs & new things to make you feel better about you & about life. Find a great support system to help you get through the tough times, and remember once in awhile, it's okay to feel a bit sad...just maybe find a really cheap item to treat yourself too to put a smile on your face :) Mine happy thing used to be godiva chocolate - now, with it being a sauna outside, if I ever feel kinda sad or mad at the world I'll go for a 1 hour walk to Tim Horton's for an Iced Cap, or to Starbucks for an Iced Raspberry Mocha. No matter what, hang tough. Life always does look up & what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Cheers, Godiva :) p.s. And don't worry...no sympathy required, just tellin' ya - you're not alone...E can mess with your world, but u can always bounce back. I usually just don't post much about the negative stuff unless it's relatable ;)

Hi Everyone, I really think that Chrissy and GodviaGirl were trying their best to help and are probably struggling with their own depression as well so I don't think that we should be too hard on them.

I'm with GG here--you have to find something that makes you feel good. You need a hobby--whether it's cooking, reading, knitting, whatever. You need to feel like you're doing something other than just killing time. :)
