I started getting tonic clonic seizures at the age of 16. By the age of 18 I had had about 10 seizures. I started smoking and in the following 3 years only had 2 seizures. when i stopped smoking in my second year of university the frequency and severity of my seizures was amplified dramatically. At the ages of 23-25 I was getting about 1 seizure a week! I started smoking again just before the age of 26. I am now 27 and have only had 4 seizures in the last year.

I think that smoking is a disgusting habit and don't want to be a smoker. Does anyone here take anxiety medications that work? I've tried urbanol and herbal remedies, but none of them have worked.

to spcsangel, i am on keppra as well and it affects my moods terribly! I have been very aggressive and irritable, apathetic and nasty. It feels like each medication one takes requires another one just to treat the side effects!!!

I smoked a pack a day x 5 years and my neurologist told me not to quit.  He said that with my epilepsy being uncontolled it was a bad time to add any more stress to my body.  I quit anyway.  I did it cold turkey.  It was bad but I told my friends and my husband that this is what I wanted and since I can't drive they were the only ones who could get it for me.  No matter how much I begged and pleaded 3 days into it they refused (as I requested).  I threatened and hated them but within a week I was better.  I have been without cigarettes for 2 months now and I am fine.  I did not see a big increase in seizures but remember I am uncontolled anyway so I wouldn't know if it was from quitting or not.  I figure it is always better to get as much poison out of your body as possible since the doctors like to prescribe their own.
