To Drink or Not To Drink

Haha... a few days ago I went drinking. It's like so bad for my epilepsy thing. I give up. I don't care to take care of this seizure thing when I'm having a fun time. Ya, it's dangerous for me, but I don't care! Epilepsy can't stop my fun. Everyone likes having fun right? This epilepsy thing, it's not in control of my life cuz I choose things in my life for myself. I'm with friends so they'll know what to do when I have a seizure. It's not like I went drinking by myself.Anyone here objects this drinking thing? Because you can try going drinking and pretend that nothing would happen and that you don't have seizures just like me. ~Sophs

I object! drinking is super bad for us. My self esteem is not that great but i know that drinking in any amount is really bad for me. Even though i go to parties where drinks are sometimes involved if i am offered a drink i say 'no'. It is hard and there is pressure involved but u would not wanna end up in the ER instead of having a fun time with ur friends. I am Jewish and there is wine involved in almost every Holiday;espically passover where u drink about 4 or more cups of wine on the first and second day. My parents dont let me drink and i dont mind that cuz i know it is best for my health; yea it sucks but thats life. So think b4 u drink. dont smoke either. 3 Davita

Sophs: While I don't drink now (I'm 33), I can't disagree with you. I lived life just how you do right now when I was younger - age 19-23. 19 is the legal drinking age in Ontario, Canada & I was away at university from 19-23. So, I basically thought the same thing as you. Why let epilepsy ruin the fun, right?? Thing I didn't think about, and that you could probably stand to think about, and looking back I think all my friends, epileptic or not say they should have thought about...really listen to that "Everything in moderation"!! Sure, go to the bars, but order 1 mix drink, then 1 water, then 1 mix drink. Know your tolerance, know your limit & don't go over it. In university, I had a great group of friends to party with. We all looked out for each other. Usually, going out, one person would stay sober! So, maybe you need one friend to stay sober & just keep an eye on you - there's always gotta be a DD & someone to medically keep an eye on people. It can't hurt to drink responsibly! My reason for not drinking is, I wasn't exactly responsible when I was younger, so as I switched neurologists I had one basically say to me to knock off the drinking & he'd help me get a driver's license - that did happen, but seizures have since taken that away. Thing is, after quitting drinking, I don't mind just ordering an iced tea, instead of a long island iced tea! Everything in moderation & be smart about it. Don't get into the drinking games. Whoever invented black/red & century deserves to be shot!! And stay away from the concept of "floor crawl"...not a great idea. It's tough, but once in awhile go out & just order an iced tea or something else. Go with everything in moderation & stay safe - once you're over the top, you never know what's being slipped into the drink. Hang in there, and have fun. Booze & bars isn't the only way to have fun. Cheers! Godiva

You know, you do what you want. Just remember this: This morning I lost a very close friend to something unknown. Life is fragile. I know you have heard that many times and so had I, but I didn't think much about it until this morning. IF something does in fact happen to you while drinking you have LOTS of people grieving for you. Can you put your family and friends in a situation like this?? Please think about it! Whatever you do please be careful~
