i have had complex partial seizures since i was 8. they r controled but not very well, i take lamicatl 200am 200pm and sometimes i get double vision and feel sick from it. also if i miss one dosage i have a all out seizure within 12 hours. i still have oras occasionally. my seizures r incredibly painful and i feel as though i'm sufficating. every time i have one i wish someone would kill me to stop it. i recover quickly though ijust get really tired and disoriented. anyway, i had some free testing done at NIH in va, an MRI and EEG. i have had these tests a few times before from my normal doctor, but was always told they didn't find anything. well NIH found something, they said i'm having tiny seizures in the right side of my brain that i don't know about. they also said it causes learning imparment and stop the brain from functioning correctly. also that surgery is an option and that it would help correct that, and stop or at least reduce my epilepsy. i've heard good things and bad things about the surgery and wanted some opinions on it.

so i went to the NIH research facility last tuesday and had another mri, 2 different pet scans, and the much dreaded video eeg. they slowly weened me off my meds for the VEEG so it wasn't that bad, i had 12 seizures mostly small ones, and one big one where i bit my tounge and blood was everywhere. but i had, a flat screen cable tv, high speed internet connection, an exercise room, and a smokin hot nurse to take care of me so i actually enjoyed my stay there. it was like going to the beach but having it raining outside so u r stuck inside to just sit around and do nothing. the food was pretty good too.

Ackling17 - There are good things and bad things about surgery. The bad things are SOMETIMES after surgery it can take a month or even 6 months to get back to your normal life. The good things about surgery is your seizures you are having now will not be as bad after surgery, possibly hardly any! Jennifer I just had the surgery in April, 2006 Jennyrose2kids@aol.com

ok i had my last test, a kind of "super high definition" MRI, i must have had about 7 MRIs. i supposidly have an abnormal brain and my seizures have nothing to do with my memory, i'm just a tard. my seizures r controlled, but they located them and said they could do surgery but it would ony be a 60% chance success rate. i'm thinking, now the thing is i just started going back to school and am actually doing pretty good, what if it doesn't work? it will just have set me back something like 6 months and put me through a horrible traumatic experience for no reason plus hurt my memory worse than it already is. it'll suspend my license for atleast a year man i dunno, 60% is awful low.
