i have had complex partial seizures since i was 8. they r controled but not very well, i take lamicatl 200am 200pm and sometimes i get double vision and feel sick from it. also if i miss one dosage i have a all out seizure within 12 hours. i still have oras occasionally. my seizures r incredibly painful and i feel as though i'm sufficating. every time i have one i wish someone would kill me to stop it. i recover quickly though ijust get really tired and disoriented. anyway, i had some free testing done at NIH in va, an MRI and EEG. i have had these tests a few times before from my normal doctor, but was always told they didn't find anything. well NIH found something, they said i'm having tiny seizures in the right side of my brain that i don't know about. they also said it causes learning imparment and stop the brain from functioning correctly. also that surgery is an option and that it would help correct that, and stop or at least reduce my epilepsy. i've heard good things and bad things about the surgery and wanted some opinions on it.

your recovery will depend on a number of things: a/ where your epilepsy is located, what function that part of the brain is performing ( if any) ,how deep the epilepsy goes. b/ your personal outlook and having a positive mind will help you through the operation and recovery. c/ It helps if you have friends / family you can stay with when you leave hospital,to finish your recovery and to get back into a normal life. d/ when you do go home after surgery, take it slowly and dont expect to much of yourself, but it is important to go for 2 to 3 short walks each day for exercise and very gradually increase the length of your walks. You may need some assistance walking at first, as you may still be unsteady when you walk. e/ keep a mental note of any problem that concerns, so you can discuss it with your surgeon when you see him at your post opereration consultation. ( usually about 2-3 weeks after surgery in Australia.) f/ have some panadine forte on hand when you get home, I found the first night at home, was the worst headache I had throughout the whole surgery-recovery period. All the above " may or may not affect you" every case is different and affects each person differently. Good Luck

Aussie2006, I had surgery 7/31 & on the recovery road. Was in the hospital only 2.5 days and returned to my own home. Please pardon my "hot air" but need to express my frustration to someone who can relate. Its been a heck of a ride and the damn headache won't stop. It hurts to move my eyes. Friends and family want to visit but I am not in the mood. I just want to rest and not talk. I feel good but not up to social outints or visits. Besides my jaw is sore. Did you have jaw pain from the tmj muscle being stretched? Its not intorable but I really can't talk much and do not have an appetite. Smoothies are my #1 choice these days. Any ideas? Hope to hear from you.
