Why is my daugther so tired?

Sun, 10/22/2006 - 22:38
I am wondering if anyone else's child with epilepsy seems tired a lot. My 5 year old (soon to be six in November) takes 15 mg of Topomax at night. She seems tired so often. The minute she gets off the kingergarten bus the thumb goes in the mouth. I am not sure if it is from E, her meds or totally unrelated. Any thoughts?

My daughter is now seven. She repeated kindergarden because of seizures. She to would come home from school and grab a pillow and blanket climb up on the couch, stick her fingure in her mouth and fall a sleep for 2-3hrs. She did this everyday. She wouldnt even eat lunch before her nap. I was afraid that first grade was not going to go so well.I dont know if because we changed meds or because she is getting older but she doesnt have to have a nap everyday anymore. The only thing I have noticed is that she is very emotional now. It could be that she is alittle tired from the day. It is no where near as bad as it use to be though.I was woried about changing meds. She had been on the same one since she was two.Now I am glad I did.How is she doing in school?

Ekoorb, Kaitlyn is always tired too. She is on Depakote though. But she is always tired. She will lay in the chair and just suck her thumb. She will get bursts of energy but those are short lived and followed by extreme crankiness and being tired. She doesn't like naps though so she fights through those to stay awake but the minute we get into the car she falls asleep. She has seizures at night I am almost certain, last night she had one strong enough to toss her out of bed and still have some shaking while on the floor which was loud enough to hear in another room. So I think that has alot to do with her tiredness. Hope you found out something from your doctor about it, especially since it was over a year ago that you wrote this.
