What is this?

Kaitlyn had another seizure of some sort yesterday. I am not sure what it was, but I am hoping that maybe one of you might have experienced something similar to what she is having so that way I know what it is. She has now had 3 of these episodes. The first 2 I didn't witness, my husband did. I saw the end of the 2nd one and it was almost exactly the same as this one. When I went into her room to wake her from a nap yesterday I found her laying on her stomach with her eyes open and she didn't look right. I went over to her and she was having this little jerks and twitches. Her eyes were jumping around and were dialated. I picked her up and she was limp and then went stiff and then went limp again. I was holding her like a baby across my arms trying to talk to her, and she wouldn't even look in my direction. She would sream for a half a second and then would stop. This went on for about 4-5 minutes and then stopped. After it stopped we sat in the chair and she just sat there, not saying anything, not moving but her eyes were responsive when I would talk to her, still dialated. She just sat there for another 25 minutes. Finally 30 minutes after I found her, she got up out of no where and was playing again. She acted like she was out of sorts for the rest of the evening. She was irratable and grouchy. The first time that this happened, she had a long day and took a late nap. The second time I don't think there was anything really going on. Yesterday she had woken up early, went to bed late the night before and then took an extremely long nap. She normally takes a hour nap, and yesterday it was about 2 1/2 almost 3 hour nap. I don't know how long she was like this before I went in there. Anyone know what this is?? Thanks! Emily

My daughter has seizures that sound kind of like that. Do you ever watch her after she first falls asleep? My daughter for the first 2 1/2 hours she is sleeping will shake, get stiff, shake, and relax. The Neuro tells me that these are "breakthrough seizures". Today he started her on Lorazipan at night for 3 nights to see if we can get her body a break just until her medicine levels out in her system again. Many times she will wet the bed during these episodes. Sometimes when she wets the bed, this will wake her up. She comes down to the bathroom and is very disoriented and doesn't really respond or anything, it is very strange. Other times she will sleep through all of it and not even know what is going on.

I haven't watched her fall asleep lately. I used to have her sleep in our room when she was a baby and I have been trying to remember how she slept but I can't remember. I know that she would flip around in the bed alot, and she would pick her legs up and then drop them down. She would do this about 10-15 times in a row. I don't know if she still does this, I think we might go in and watch her sleep. Before the seizures started she was having night terrors (or I thought they were night terrors) but they never really seemed like what I read about night terrors. It's so hard to tell if she's had a seizure based on whether or not she has gone to the bathroom because she is still in a diaper. There are nights where she is SUPER wet, and those also seem to be the days that she is a grouch all day and tired so that always makes me wonder. Thanks for the reply!! Take care! Emily

My daughter always twitches at night when she has first falling asleep.Sometimes her arm or even a leg will fly up into the air.The neruo has observed this several times and had eegs down while she is falling asleep and during sleep. They have come to dignose this as "active" sleep. The guides lines for her are as long as she doesnt have more then ten movements at a time she is fine.Normally after she has been a sleep for a couple of hrs she wont do it anymore. As for the seizures dont be to hard on yourself,we all do the best we can.Hopefully you have a doctor that still has some compassion.
