Seizures changing does that happen???

Sat, 09/30/2006 - 23:05
I am trying to figure this out..my daughter Emily Klair is 3 1/2 years old and has had absence and drop seizures we just found out that they were generalized with a veeg this July. Anywho she got sick about 2 weeks ago well she had her first tonic clonic seizure and she had them all week morning and night. We just assumed that it was because she was sick and the Dr. put her on some valum morning and night and then gave us some new diastat to carry with us. Well it has been 2 weeks and we are still having these seizures. The Dr. does not seem to be to worried but I am wondering why they are changing all of a sudden and becoming more frequent. You look at her and she has big dark circles under her eyes and she does not look like my Emmy Klair..my husband and family and friends are really concerned she looks unwell. Just wondered if anybody else was going through this...thanks for the feedback... Emily Klair's mom...Kari

Thank-you all for the comments...I am trying to get in to her ped. here in town to see what he thinks and if we need a new specialist..this Dr. game is almost as hard as the medicine one. I will let you know what happens thank-you...have any of you had such dramatic changes in your seizures?? was there always a reason, like being ill or under the weather? or something simple like that??? Thank-you all so much for the support I receive on this site it is great to know that I am not alone!!!! Kari

Kari, Please let us know how your daughter is doing. When we sent Claire to an Epileptologist we got much better and thorough answers than from her Neurologist. Check and see if there is one in your area. CLaire's seizures also got worse for a while, and found out it was because she was on the wrong medicine for her seizures. She was on Keppra and our Epileptologist, said it isn't as good for absence seizures. It is more for partial seizures, and sometimes if you put people on the wrong meds it will make them worse. When we switched her to Depakote she got much better. Claire has absence and myoclonic seizures, which are generalized seizures. He said Keppra is such a new drug that they know more how it affects partials, but not as sure about generalized seizures. Good luck and let us know how she is doing. Lori

I am so frustrated right now we had another bad few days with Emmy Klair and I still can not get anyone to understand. I as a mother really deep in my heart are hurting and thinking that something is really wrong but not sure what. I do not know call me crazy I just have this nagging feeling that they are missing something. I am taking her to the Dr. again tommorrow so hopefully I will have some more info tommorrow...I wish I could show you all a before and after pic of how she physically changes you know it is so different. I will not give up and I know that we will find out what is going on soon.
