Normal blood tests, now what?

Sat, 04/07/2007 - 01:16
So Kaitlyn (who will be two in May) had a bunch of blood work done (I'm not sure what they were all testing for, but I'm sure most of you have had your little ones have the same blood tests) all came back normal. But I am now having my mind running with a million other what ifs. I just want a diagnosis so I know what this is that is causing her to have seizures. She gets her MRI next week... and her EEG was last week and that came back normal. How many of you guys have had your kids have normal blood work but then when they do the MRI have it come back with something? How many have still to find out what is causing them?

I personally found going to the major hospitals that have an Epilepsy Center have some good doctors there. http://www.aesnet.org/epilepsyfoundation/ I am sorry the problem you are having and I can imagine it must be very hard for a parent. Hang in there, answers will come soon. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpilepsyApproach1/ http://www.sleep-safe.co.uk/id90.htm

Hi, I am new here and your topic caught my eye.I am assuming you are at the beginning of the whole process and I can sympathize with you. The first year is the worst. The tests and the worrys all can be hard to bear. I will tell you of my experience and I hope it helps. My son is now 8 years old and has been having sezuires since he was two. And just so you get the right idea, he has had times where he has 60+ sezuires a day. Anyways, he has had all the tests. Blood work, EEG's, CAT scans, and MRI's. The last MRI was just 5 months ago. All these test have always come back normal. With a video EEG they found out exactly where in his brain the seizures come from but there is no reason why. For a while I found it very confusing until I realized that what this really means is that there are just a few cells in his brain that short-curcuit now and then. He is a very healthy child otherwise. Even with the large doses of meds he is on, his sezuires are simply a part of his life. He has had them at school, at friends houses, in the stores etc etc. From what I know, chances are greatest that you will not find out what causes the seizures. But take comfort in that. It means there is no tumors or other problems which are more serious than the seizures them selves. It is just something you learn to accept and give thanks that your child is otherwise healthy. Kids are so resilliant, they can handle much more than we think they can! Good luck with everthing. Linda

It seems like this whole process is taking forever and I am getting anxious to know what is what. It's horrible. I want to know everything and I wanted to know it the first day she had a seizure. I can't wait much longer, I'm going nuts. I am trying to find another neurologist, no luck there. I am trying to get answers and no luck there. I feel like I'm fighting to get them to work for us, and it's hard. I hope she can handle it all, I know she can. I am just worried, and I hate to see her hurt. Thank you though, it did help. Hearing everything that everyone has gone through and knowing that their kids are all doing good helps. I just worry alot. She's so young. Emily
