allergies and seizures

Fri, 06/29/2007 - 12:49
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a link between their child's seizure activity and allergy season. We went quading along the alphalpha feilds the other day and my son's eyes totally swelled up into jelly balls. He was so tired out and stuffed up. He had a seizure the next morning. Does anyone think that allergic reactions can lower the seizure threshold? It seems plausible to me as their system would be weakened? --mamajess

My daugthers started when her allergies were really bad and was on Benadryl as well as Katlady (I think that's who posted that). I know that I have been told that Bendadryl is really bad for people with seizures in the first place and that it lowers the threshold but that also have an allergy problem in it's self can be a trigger for it. We have seen an allergist for Kaitlyn and have her on Clairtin now and she hasn't had the same kind of seizures that she was having... however we are missing alot of hers.. so I don't know.
