3 month old with seizures

Wed, 01/17/2007 - 16:01
I am new to the website and have really learned a lot in just a few days. My daughter is 3 months old and was recently diagnoised with a seizure disorder. She has been having 8-15 grand mal seizures a day. We are currently on Phenobarb and Keppra. We are currently in the process of scheduling an appointment with an Epileptologist. She is so young that some of the new medication has not been approved for infants her age. Keppra is one of those drugs, but they have found that it works great in older kids. The past 2 weeks have been constant seizures throughout the day. The past few days she has had only facial twitches. Does this mean the medication is working, but need to adjust it to get those to stop? She is also really tired and not wanting to eat. I have also found that her diaper in the morning is hardly wet ( I expect for it to be soaked after 8-10 hours), is this normal? So many questions to answer? Praying daily for her and other families because this is so scary. JBishop

Mama Bear I was wondering how your son was doing with the B6? Our doctor mentioned that we could try it if the other medications did not work. She said that we would know in 1 one whether it worked or not. Thanks for sharing the info with me and I pray your son is doing well. JBishop

I wish I could give you more answers but I can't. We are also in the early stages of finding a diagnosis for our daughter, 7.5 months old. She started having myoclonic seizures about 2 months ago and was diagnosed 2.5 weeks ago with them. She's on Zonegran and it seems to be helping her, but it also not indicated for children but they use it anyway. I know the feeling about there being more questions than answers and pray that you get some soon. Jenn

Hi, my daughter was diagnosed with a seizure disorder when she was 2months old and which happens only when she's in the middle of sleep .Her neurologist started her with Phenobarb but we noticed no significant change in her condition after 2 months. We then decided to change her doctor and transfer her to a referred child epileptologist. She was 5 months old then when she was given another medication besides Phenobarb, and that is Keppra. She's now 9 months old and experiences 1-2 seizure attacks a day and sometimes none. By the way, at age 4 months, we also brought her to a developmental specialist to track her milestones. It seems that her seizures caused the delay in the development of her gross motor skills. She's now having therapy. Though her language skills are excellent, we need to work double time in developing her motor skills which is very necessary. She's turning 1 in May and hopefully her seizures will be fully controlled by then. Your daughter will be in our prayers as well! Mary Ann
