We had another one

Fri, 01/12/2007 - 16:06
Hi, Well here we go again. My 8 year old daughter that had had her first big seizure Nov 21 had one yesterday. It was strange because it happened about the same time as the first one. About 6:45am. This time she was getting dressed in her room and all of a sudden my 10 year old daughter comes running out of the bedroom screaming she is having a seizure. I got in the room and she had slid down and was squating down against the bed. So I got her and laid her on the bed on her side. It lasted about a minute maybe two. We got her awake and she came out of it just fine. I am scared that the seizures could kill her. Her breathing was not as bad this time. And she came out of it good, but I am still so scared. They have uped her meds to 4 in the morning and 5 at night. She is on Lamictal 25mg. But it is still scary. Jeana

Hi Kim, Thanks so much for that! My daughter has been having the small ones for 3 years now. But when she had that first big one in Novemeber of last year. It really scared us. So far she has only had the two. I have noticed with her that her small ones seem to start right after she wakes up. The other night we went to see my mom and she lives two hours away. Well we stopped for a bite to eat. And I woke the girls up. Well Rebeka had several small ones just back to back. And my husband noticed she looked pale. But she never went into a big one. But she had several small ones back to back. And after she got good and awake she was fine. I just thought that was really weird. Thanks so much for listening and any advice is greatly appreated. Thanks again for everything. Jeana

Jeana, I'm glad to hear from you. What do you consider small seizures? And, how long are the big ones? Short seizures are obviously better than long (meaning longer than 5 min.) but you should be concerned when she has clusters (back to back). If she doesn't come out of one before going into another - then you should let your dr. know ASAP! Sounds like you and your husband are doing a great job keeping on top of Rebeka's seizures. Any information that you can give to your dr. may be helpful for your daughter. I have recently started keeping a calendar for my daughter. I record her seizures, when she receives meds., and any changes in mood, appearance etc. I am glad to hear that your daughter has been doing okay. I hope she continues to do well! All the best. Kim

Kim, Hi! The small ones I was talking about are the eye rolling that she started doing to begin with. (What made us take her to the doctor to begin with.) Last Wed morning (2-21-07) she had her 3rd grand mal. And yesterday she also had a grand mal. On both of them right before it happened she put her hands out in front of her and then she went into it. Yesterday it didn't last even a minute. As quick as she went into one she came right out of it. Last week it was about 1 and a half. But they are so scary. But the last two I handled myself really well. I didn't freak out about them and my 10 year old didn't freak out either. She was as calm as I was. I did call her doctor both times. They uped her meds and we had blood work done to check her Lamitcal level. (Last wed) Then I called them back yesterday and let them know exactly what happened again. And they said they could up her med just a little more. She is now taking 5 in the morning and 5 and a half at pm. We are hoping that will help her out. Well I will go. Jeana
