We had another one

Fri, 01/12/2007 - 16:06
Hi, Well here we go again. My 8 year old daughter that had had her first big seizure Nov 21 had one yesterday. It was strange because it happened about the same time as the first one. About 6:45am. This time she was getting dressed in her room and all of a sudden my 10 year old daughter comes running out of the bedroom screaming she is having a seizure. I got in the room and she had slid down and was squating down against the bed. So I got her and laid her on the bed on her side. It lasted about a minute maybe two. We got her awake and she came out of it just fine. I am scared that the seizures could kill her. Her breathing was not as bad this time. And she came out of it good, but I am still so scared. They have uped her meds to 4 in the morning and 5 at night. She is on Lamictal 25mg. But it is still scary. Jeana

MindyRoy, I too am so glad that I have found this site. I am just like you I am scared for my daughter to go anywhere. But I know she has to go to school and my husband went to the school the first time it happend and talked to the principle school nurse and her teacher. They all know that it could happen. But it doesn't keep me from worring. I am so sorry that you are going through this too. Feel free to write to me anytime. It sure does help to have someone going through it also. Jeana

Jeana, Thanks for replying. The Monday I wrote you, that week was one of the worse weeks in my life. Shelbie had a seizure everyday starting on Tuesday, and finally ending on Saturday. When we did her EEG video in Dec, the doctor decided to weange her off topamax and start her on depakote. Well...1/14 was her last day of topamax. Her seizures increased on 1/16. She had one every morning. On 1/16 she had it 10 mintues after I dropped her off at the day care. I did not get a call from the day care until 30 mintues later. They called 911 becasue she was breathing so bad, and she didn't look good. They decided to send her to the ER. Once I saw her, she looked fine. They took blood at the ER, and everything looked normal. They did decide to up her depakote. Well, she had another one 1/17 and 1/18. I called the doctor on 1/18 and said I want to be seen. They stated to me that because of her topamax being out of her system, her body was going through withdraws. She stated wait a few days. If she has another one, put her back on topamax. She had one 1/19 and 1/20. She started back on topamax on 1/20. Since than she hasn't had a gran mal. But she has had some absence ones. She will have a long stare. Her eyes look strange. She does shake but very little. This past weekend she had 2 of them and wet herself. I really think it is the depakote. She has never had these absence seizures until she started on this. I have called the doctor, but no answer. The gran mal's have stopped for right now. Hope to know more later. Oh by the way, I am so pleased with Shelbie's school. When the first one at school happened, everyone knew what to do. They kids made her feel special, and not a freak. I am glad she is in good hands when I am not with her. How is your daughter? Take care! Mindy

H MindyRoy, My son Andrew is an autistic 13 year old. He has occasional seizures. It is very scary to see this happen. He had one tonight (2-12-07) I called 911 because it seemed like he had a hard time breathing. We kept him home. I am taking tomorrow off to make sure he is okay. I totally kow know you feel. I am new to this website. take care andyman
