Trileptal, really starting to question it.

Thu, 11/16/2006 - 22:54
my daughter lauren is age 9 and has epilepsy. She was placed on trileptal last Feb and was doing great on it, now all of a sudden she is having absence seizures and there are times when she is a difficult child. I almost at times want to take her off the medication and see if I get my daughter back. but I know that I can't do that, just wishful thinking. I would love to hear from others who are either on trileptal or have a child on it. To find out what kind of side effects they experienced. or maybe if anyone knows of a different anti-convulsant medicine without some of these side effects. Would appreciate any help I can get. Michele

I have been on many medications through the years and recently was switched over to trileptol. I'm TIRED ALL THE TIME, I'm dizzy and for some reason I've got the worst heartburn I've ever had. Have you ever experienced heartburn from this medication?

I haven't experience any heartburn from the medication, however, I did experience the tired feeling like you said. How long have been on it. I have been on it a year now and I don't feel quite as bad anymore. Oh Yeah, try eating with it, it's a big help.

Hi Michele, My daughter is 9 and has been on trileptal since April 2006 when she had her 2nd grand mal. She was fine up until about Nov. 2006 when she started having alot of problems in school with behavior. She became nasty and aggressive and uncontrollable at times. I was getting phone calls from the principal constantly and they just didn't understand how seizures could cause this. Her neuro increased her dosage of trileptal and had an EEG done. Her behavior continued to get worse and she became more irritable. The EEG showed a small amount of activity and the neuro said she is having partial seizures which could account for the behavior and learning problems. A little over a week ago he increased her dosage of trileptal again to control the seizures and auras she was getting. I started getting more calls from the school again so i'm now waiting to talk to the neuro about changing her medication. I know at school it is difficult when you have a class of 24 so hopefully I can get her behavior under control. Its so confusing but I feel the same way you do. I just want that happy smiling girl back and I want her to feel better too. She told me she can't help being bad even though she doesnt want to. Thats hard for a mom to hear...Good luck!
