Trileptal, really starting to question it.

Thu, 11/16/2006 - 22:54
my daughter lauren is age 9 and has epilepsy. She was placed on trileptal last Feb and was doing great on it, now all of a sudden she is having absence seizures and there are times when she is a difficult child. I almost at times want to take her off the medication and see if I get my daughter back. but I know that I can't do that, just wishful thinking. I would love to hear from others who are either on trileptal or have a child on it. To find out what kind of side effects they experienced. or maybe if anyone knows of a different anti-convulsant medicine without some of these side effects. Would appreciate any help I can get. Michele

Trileptal worked really well for me, but it changed my personality. I became more hostile and would have angry outbursts and I was an adult. My kids were scared of me because I would yell at them over stupid little things. I got off after 6 mos. My family is way more important than being seizure free and mad all the time. I haven't regretted it. I am having success with Lamictal. I don't know if kids can take it, but it has done wonders in just a couple of months. I used to be indecisive; but now I'm not so sure. I think.

Hello Michelle, Keep looking into options, you are not wishful thinking of trying to take off med. There is vitamins, and foods example tuna that helps keep seizures away. I use to be epileptic for 18 years I took meds, an I disliked it so much, we are not ourselves with thinking, and moods. I went thru surgery, blessed do not have them nomore off meds. But my brother had them too, and we are going forward with information, he passed away, we believe from the medicine. He took Trileptal and lamital, had so many effects, his doctor kept him forward on them over a year, we was changing doctors becuase this one was not improving him, he was worsening him, wish we knew then what we learnt today. THere is SUDEP, doctors do not inform us.
