Lamictal, memory loss and getting memory back

Sun, 12/14/2014 - 23:42

Hi,

I have been on Lamictal 300mg for about 4 years. My loss of memory and inability to pull out words has gotten to the point where I'm not enjoying life. Holding a conversation that lasts a few sentences has become embarassing. I was wondering if anyone who has been on lamictal and taken off has had their memory return. I will talk to my doctor but the last time I went in they tried to convince me that the meds had nothing to do with memory loss.

Thanks,

Donna

Ive been taking 300mg or 500mg of lamictal since I was 14, I'm now 17. Every morning I wake up I forget more and more of the previous day. I wake up and don't remember much from the day before. My parents won't let me come off it and so my memory just keeps getting worse. To be honest, it really scares me. I'm 17 and I barely can remember things. I'm so scared that one day I'm just gonna end up like the girl from 50 first dates or worse. I want my memory back.

Hi Donna.  I take Lamictal

Hi Donna.  I take Lamictal for bipolar and was having trouble thinking.  (Not good since I’m a writer and performer.)  My psychiatrist told me that Lamictal interferes with the body’s ability to metabolize folic acid.  She prescribed me Deplin which is basically folic acid in its last stage of metabolism so your body doesn’t have to do any work. It has made a world of difference.  Check it out.  I should note that Deplin intensified the side effects of Lamictal when I drank heavily.  I scaled back to one or two beers and was fine.  Let us know how you’re doing!

I've been on Lamictal since I

I've been on Lamictal since I was 20 and am taking 700mg a day. It's been working great until two years ago when I had 2 grand mal episode for no apparent reason. I was taking Kepra previously when I had my first seizure at 14. My memory has always been bad since school years and even now I can't remember client's names or faces unless I've met them for over 10 times. But when I brought this up, my neurologist said it doesn't have much to do with seizure medications. But from everybody saying here it DOES seem to have a correlation. The only difference is the severity of the memory loss. Another problem I have with Lamictal is sleepiness. Caffeine such as coffee and matcha green tea (which I am hooked to recently ) tends to make me more drowsy. Has anybody experienced sleeping issues with Lamictal or other seizure medications?
