Keppra

Does anybody take Keppra on its own to control Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy? I thought it was just an add on and it does not seem to be working totally.

Truly, what I really think is that everyone's reactions to AEDs is so individual? It's unfortunately impossible to know if you'll have side effects, seizure relief from the AEDs until you try them. Some people do really well on one while others don't. Some have a lot of side effects on one while another does not. At one point I did read that Keppra was not for monotherapy but these things change all the time. I'd read about it and see if that still holds true. Keppra is one of the new AEDs out, thus the information on it has changed quite a bit since I first knew it 7 years ago. Good luck. I'm trying a new AED too, now I take 3 every day and 3 as needed. I did post and ask for people's experiences on this new one too and got such a wide variety of effectiveness and reactions? I'm just having to find out for myself. It's frustrating isn't it? Hey, I am happy to hear you had such a wonderful pregnancy :) I also went throughout my pregnancy med free and seizure free. I started taking Keppra about 2 mos ago for my JME. It makes me really tired and I am definately a victim of the mood swings, sad to say. What type of E do you have? Did you just stop meds for your pregnancy or is this the first time you have been on them? I have had E since age 15, now 27. This is the first year (past 6 mos) I have ever been on meds. I am actually weaning myself off right now. I am hoping to have another baby soon and dont want to be on meds:) I am praying. I havent had any seizures on Keppra although I am not willing to give it full credit for that because I havent had that many seizures in my life either and was never on meds. I hope everything goes well for you! God Bless, Jill

Had a similar E history . .

Had a similar E history . . . started seizure meds at 15 b/c i had a grand mal--the kind where there is no warning, just pass out and shake and come out it slowly and confused --- am also 27! had my 3rd seizure ever 3 weeks after my pregnancy---tell me about JME? please have a neuro help you wean off meds b/c going off meds alone can cause you to have a seizure, you may want to have an EEG to see if it shows seizure activity . . . if does you could stay monitored during your pregnacy and then take meds afterwards . . . hope you can have another medication free pregnancy . . . sounds like not everyone has this opportunity. hope this goes well for you too.
