carbatrol and menopause

Thu, 05/19/2005 - 17:27
I am a new PS sufferer of about 1 yr. I have been on carbatrol since diagnosis with fairly good control. My problem is I noticed I began to have hot flashes around the time of starting the carbatrol and my periods are lessing, thus it appears I am going or am in menopause. I am 49, the female history in the family is late 50's for menopause. Is there any research, evidence, anecdotal evidence of tegretol causing early menopuase and or seizures causing menopause? My concern of course is cancer to which I am not willing to deal with!Help!Stefany

Linda, Good for you with getting your license. I have been learning for 36 years and learned alot from trial and error. I am into the alternative side for I have been on the other side before. I do not put down either side down for I work with both. What is good for you my not work for me. Just a little motto that I have to remember.I have never heard of this oxygen stuff. Thanks for the name. I am going to do some research on this. I am always ready to learn something new with epilepsy.best of luck with getting your license.Lisahttp://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpilepsyApproach/

Hi Lisa. I have to make this brief. If you decide on trying the o2 drops then let me know if they work. I'm not sure about the liscense. Since I am treating E all naturally then it just makes sense that I might be able to help others. Do you do holistic counseling for people with E? True. What works for me won't work for someone else. I have been down the pharmacutical raod and came to a dead end. I prefer an all natural treatmant plan. But just like it was with AEDs it is try this, try that, and hopefully somewhere down the line you come up with something that works 100% in controlling seizure. At least with the natural supplements I don't suffer from lots of nasty side effects that I had with all the AEDs. You have to be careful with the natural supplements too becuase too much of anything is not good. Some people have a bad reaction to the natural remedies. A treatment plan is very personal and needs to be developed with a person's best interet at heart. All the best to you. Blessings. Linda.

Hi,

I too am on Carbitrol, and I also have hot flashes.  I have had a hysterectomy and never had hot flashes until I started on Carbitrol.  I was told by my doctor that Carbitrol is metabolized through the liver as are hormones and that is causing the hot flashes.  Aren't they the worst?
