Stress and seizures and marriage issues

Thu, 03/01/2007 - 19:55
I am 28 years old and I have been married for about 2 months. My husband does not know much about epilepsy. My seizures are mostly triggered by lack of sleep and stress. He just believes I say that as an excuse. He does not know much about epilepsy and does not think it is serious. I am sleepy through most of my day and if I do not get a nap I begin having aura's. We have alot of marriage problems and money stress. How do I help him understand any of this? I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. None of these he understands either he just thinks I am tired and lazy. I also have an autistic son which is a source of huge stress for me, but he leaves alot of the responsibilty of him to me no matter how I am feeling. Please help me. Tera

Tera: Hi! My husband was a cop for twenty years, and we have been married for 5, so when I have a seizure he is not that fazed by the seizure itself. Only the emotional aspect of it. This is 2007, your husband needs to do his own research to educate himself, then grow up. I am sure he is a nice guy, but being supportive of you and your lifelong seizure disorder is a must. I am sure if he becomes ill he would ask for the same support from you. Going to the emergency room is all dependent upon the situation. Having seizures can be life threatening. Something I do not see on this site is any mention of electrolytes. I spent 10 days in ICU 4 years ago after going into seizures due to mine being in the basement. When doing your blood work ask your doctor to check those. A support group would be a great idea for you, lest your husband not step up to the plate. Best of luck to you - Gwen
