I need your help! Seizures and Driving in Michigan

Sat, 03/24/2007 - 17:20
Ok. I need some help and advice. Last week I had a seizure for the first time. I an almost 100% positive i do not have epilepsy, and that the seizure was simply a result of too much caffeine and not enough sleep. However, my doctor still says that i may not drive for 6 months, since that is what Michigan (thats where i live) law says. So basically, i am wondering if anyone knows if there is a way that i can test whether or not i have epilepsy, and if not, is there anything i can do to get my license back without having to wait 6 months??? Any help on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!!

yes that is the law! i have lived in michigan all of my life and when my dr. told me that my l was going to have to be taking for six months i nearly die. but, ask you dr. if you can drive within 3 months after the first seizure. if they do not see another seizure within the six months the dr. will let you drive again.

one thing you should do is, check with the michigan.org to see if the hold is our driving license.

I turned in my license on my owned and waited 10 months till I felt safe on the road. It was a real bear and cause a lot of issues in my family but we got through it. I have a license now and limited my driving to small trips and only when I feel up to it. I had two MVA cause by sez's and the only person hurt was me Thank God. In my case the doctor didn't even notify the DMV cause they had no idea about my sez's and the accidents...marty
