I need your help! Seizures and Driving in Michigan

Sat, 03/24/2007 - 17:20
Ok. I need some help and advice. Last week I had a seizure for the first time. I an almost 100% positive i do not have epilepsy, and that the seizure was simply a result of too much caffeine and not enough sleep. However, my doctor still says that i may not drive for 6 months, since that is what Michigan (thats where i live) law says. So basically, i am wondering if anyone knows if there is a way that i can test whether or not i have epilepsy, and if not, is there anything i can do to get my license back without having to wait 6 months??? Any help on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!!

no, wait for 6 months and then lets see what happens. If you do not have a seizure during this time, i would still get it checked out by a nerologist. Driving at this time may be dangerous to you and to others. I have not been driving since the age of 12 and i know how you feel. I am 30 now. Driving would not be in your best interest now until you find out if you have epilepsy or not my friend. Just wait and hang in there. And accept it either you have it or not, and do the right thing.

I have now lost my licence for the second time and in the UK we have to be seizure free for 12 months. Yes its a pain at first but you get used to, worse things happen to people. I think sometimes, well I wouldn't get in the car if I felt funny but the fact of the matter is that it happens in a instance and you could be behind a wheel and what if you hurt someone else how bad would you feel? T Take the above advice and do the right thing.

A seizure is a seizure. I've only had three seizures in my life but I just got my license taken away from me 2 weeks ago for 6 months also. My coworker has been picking me up for work (and I reimburse her for the amount of distance she goes out of her way to pick me up) but my sister is moving in with me to help me out :) It sucks big time but do you really want to chance hurting someone or killing someone because you had a seizure? AND if you do drive and say someone runs a red light and hits you and its completely their fault-- they can sue you because technically you shouldn't have been on the road in the first place.
