feelings of terror with seizures

Thu, 04/20/2006 - 08:32
The main symptoms of my seizures were awful feelings of terror. Along with that, I had some memory loss. My seizures would last about 1 minute and I would get about 20 a day. They would last 2 to 3 days and not come back for a few months. I was extremely tired on days with awful headaches. Clonazepam has helped a lot. I just want to know if anyone out there has seizures like I experienced especially the terror feelings. First I was told it was panic attacks, but they are seizures. I do not lose consciousness.

I know what you're saying but I knew a week in advance and virtually to the minute when it was going to happen so most of the time I would have someone with me and be sat in a comfy chair so I had a familiar face and surroundings to come round to. In my blog I tried to explain it but re-reading it the situation sounds farcical. it really does sound like an ideal situation for an Epileptic to be in but it drove me insane. Andy

Andy, My feelings on that is that if you say you know...then you know. I've had enough years of 'knowing' and 'feeling' different things concerning my epilepsy that have been pooh-poohed by doctors and every commonsense thinking individual around me. Thank goodness they are not in my head with my brain as it would be really overcrowded up there, but since they aren't, who are they to pooh-pooh what I know and feel concerning it. I believe you. Back to the hammer comparison. If I knew a week ahead of time that my foot was going to be slammed with a hammer, no matter what I might try to do to avoid it, and this happens not once or twice but in a pattern, I would be very mind weary too. As would anyone. I wish I had an answer for you, I don't. But I do hope you are able to find one that will help you in some way, shape or form. Take care and be safe! -Spiz

Just wanted to add a comment. Feelings of terror can be part of or the whole seizure. Some people call it a warning or aura, but in fact, the seizure activity has started and thus this is part of the seizure! If the person is aware, then it is called a simple partial seizure. If the person loses awareness or contact with people/environment around them, then complex partial seizure. Lots of different things can happen as part of partial seizures. Here is link to content on site. A hard part of sorting out symptoms is that seizure activity can also trigger emotional reactions that may occur after the seizure, or in response to it. Thus, if fear, anxiety, depressed feelings or something else is happening around time of seizure, but tends to last a while, may not all be part of the actual seizure. If events aren't controlled or cause isn't clear, testing called EEG telemetry can be done to see if sxs is part of seizure or not. www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial.html www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/testing_eeg.html Hope this helps!
