feelings of terror with seizures

Thu, 04/20/2006 - 08:32
The main symptoms of my seizures were awful feelings of terror. Along with that, I had some memory loss. My seizures would last about 1 minute and I would get about 20 a day. They would last 2 to 3 days and not come back for a few months. I was extremely tired on days with awful headaches. Clonazepam has helped a lot. I just want to know if anyone out there has seizures like I experienced especially the terror feelings. First I was told it was panic attacks, but they are seizures. I do not lose consciousness.

I have suffered with Epilepsy since being a toddler and I am now 26.  After not having any for a long period of time, unfortunately I had two yesterday.  Both seizures were full blown tonic-clonic seizures.  After reading through this post I can defintely relate in terms of the feelings of depression and bouts of terror.  However, I seem to experience the terror after waking up.  This feeling normally lasts approximately 24 hours. I tend to go into a child-like state and become frigtened of virtually everything.  It feels almost as though there is an evil presence in the room with me and I cannot bare to be on my own.

On top of this I also get severe memory loss, confusion and a feeling of detachment from reality.  The depression and detachment from reality seems to last a few days, whereas the other symptoms tend to dissapear a little sooner.

I was wondering if anyone else has ever felt this impending sense of doom, paranoia and terror once they have come out of a seizure?

I was just perscribed Klonopin which is the brand name of Clonazepam. I was perscribed that for I am getting a bit of anxiety because of my hormones. It can help with panic attacts, anxiety even though you have epilepsy. Anxiety and stress can cause seizures. It sounds like your doctor was trying to get them undercontrol. Have not taken it yet. But I am not to keen on taking it. I dont like how this medication works. You have to keep taking more and more for it to work. How much are you taking now? I dont have any choices left. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

I ONLY FEEL LIKE THAT WHEN I'M GETTING RADY TO HAVE A SEIZURE. OTHER THAN THAT I FEEL FINE. I JUST DON'T LIKE THE FEELING BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND I CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO STOP IT. I DON'T NEED ANYMORE MEDS TO TAKE I FEEL I TAKE ENOUG.
