Ear ringing with temporal lobe epilepsy?

Mon, 05/29/2006 - 18:25
Hi, folks. I've read that a ringing in the ears or other auditory sensations can be simple partial seizures. I sometimes get (and typically earlier in the day before a more noticable simple partial) a loud ringing in my left ear. I can still hear fine in my right ear, but in my left ear it sounds like a TV test pattern when the channel goes off the air. It's the only thing I can hear in my left ear, though I can still go on talking, working etc. It lasts about half a minute. Does this sound familiar to anyone? The wierd thing is, my seizure focus is in my left temporal lobe. Doesn't that mean that any auditory hallucination would be in my RIGHT ear? I don't know if the general rule of left brain/right body applies to auditory inputs. Anyone with similar experiences? Thanks!

From age 2-4 I would have

From age 2-4 I would have seizures. No convulsions, mainly passing out and zoning out. Doctors had no explanation. Years went by without any more seizures. When I turned 19 I had a seizure. I started feeling hot and then blacked out. Now, u am a few days from being 25 and I average about 1-3 seizures a year now. At this point I cam sense the seizures about 1-3 weeks in advance. Prior to the seizures, I seem to shock things easily as if I rubbed my feet accross a carpet. I also have very vivid dreams. A few days before the seizure I will notice throbbing like headaches in the front of my head. Stomach nausea is increased. Moments before the seizure I have stomach nausea and hot flashes. Once I start feeling dizzy, I try to quickly find a seat before I start having my seizure, but I cannot control my body and I usually collapse. I noticed discomfort in my ears also. The lights intensify these symptoms.Recently had an MRI, but doctors say there is nothing abnormal....I want to a second opinion. Cam anyone related to this??

I just started having partial

I just started having partial seizures last year, and your symptoms are similar.I was having 3-5 a day, have taken many MRIs, cat scans, etc. But everything comes back normal. I'm starting to think they dont believe me.I read somewhere from this website that it is very common with partial seizures for the tests to read normal, and also about 50% of people have normal tests even though they have seizures. The doctors rely too much on their machines.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your insight.  My daughter was diagnosed with complex partial seizures at 13 months. She is now 3yrs old.  Now that she has caught up in her speech she is able to discribe more symptoms to us.  One new symptom is ringing in her right ear. She complains of her forehead hurting and then she says she hears buzzing/ringing in her ear.  My husband and I were not sure what to think of this.

Any suggestions of what may be triggering this or how to help her recover?

Thanks - Kadyn's mom
