Does Epilepsy ever totally go away?

Fri, 04/02/2004 - 01:57
I've read that it does. But I have my own theory on it. I believe that Epilepsy is like a Volcano – it can lie dormant for a very long time and then raise its ugly head again. We all know that some Volcanoes have been dormant for thousands of years but that they can erupt again any day. Now because us humans don't live for that long, some epilepsy may remain dormant for our whole life and others are not so lucky. I've read a few stories when the people have gone 20 years with no seizures or medication and then bang they start having seizures again and need to be put back on medication – now I'm sure they thought that they didn't have it any more! I myself have gone 7 years (between 7 and 14) without any seizures or meds and then start having them and needing meds again. I recently had another seizure my first since 1997 although that was triggered by a drug so I'm just waiting to see if that's all it was. I use to wear a Medic Alert Bracelet before and are going to start wearing it again when I get my replacement one as I lost my first one – I think everyone who has a history of seizures should wear one cause you just never know when you may have another one

I have been seizure free for

I have been seizure free for almost 7 months now. Being active and eating healthy can really help with epilepsy. I've had epilepsy for 3 years now and taking my medicine helped but I was still having bad seizures but ever since I started eating less takeout and started eating more healthy foods and started working out, it has decreased my stress and headaches and it took a bit to get used to but from what I know its seriously been helping a lot with my epilepsy. Changing my diet and being more active has changed my life and now I'm not scared of having a seizure because I changed my life style :) so hopefully sharing that will help others get active and live a better life style to help with epilepsy.
