Does Epilepsy ever totally go away?

Fri, 04/02/2004 - 01:57
I've read that it does. But I have my own theory on it. I believe that Epilepsy is like a Volcano – it can lie dormant for a very long time and then raise its ugly head again. We all know that some Volcanoes have been dormant for thousands of years but that they can erupt again any day. Now because us humans don't live for that long, some epilepsy may remain dormant for our whole life and others are not so lucky. I've read a few stories when the people have gone 20 years with no seizures or medication and then bang they start having seizures again and need to be put back on medication – now I'm sure they thought that they didn't have it any more! I myself have gone 7 years (between 7 and 14) without any seizures or meds and then start having them and needing meds again. I recently had another seizure my first since 1997 although that was triggered by a drug so I'm just waiting to see if that's all it was. I use to wear a Medic Alert Bracelet before and are going to start wearing it again when I get my replacement one as I lost my first one – I think everyone who has a history of seizures should wear one cause you just never know when you may have another one

I had two seizures a young

I had two seizures a young child. One at 6 and the other at 7 years of age. After years of no further seizures, I was taken off meds at 15. Then, right at the age of 39, the seizures started up again like crazy. They weren't diagnosed until after I passed out behind the wheel multiple times. I actually had three seizures while driving during an 11 month time period. I am lucky I didn't kill or harm anyone, including myself. I'll never allow myself to drive again. Two years later I am still in shock. I can't believe that after over 30 years of zero seizure activity, my seizures have come back unprovoked with a vengeance . By this point in time I seem to be having a seizure every other week. I feel like my entire adult life has been a deception considering that there was a long waiting time bomb in my head. What I thought was a thing in my past never really left me. A dormant volcano is a good analogy for epilepsy. I thought I was alone in this experience, so I started doing research. I am so glad I found this forum. So, if this happening to you too, then know that you are not alone.

They had me on kepra at one

They had me on kepra at one point. I stopped taking it bc it altered my personality. Also last seizure I had was when I was pregnant with my son in 2013. So I've been seizure free for 5 years in September. They said it was because I was dehydrated but before that one they could never find anything in my brain that was causing the seizures. Hoping I never have one ever again. I hope you don't either...
