Does Epilepsy ever totally go away?

Fri, 04/02/2004 - 01:57
I've read that it does. But I have my own theory on it. I believe that Epilepsy is like a Volcano – it can lie dormant for a very long time and then raise its ugly head again. We all know that some Volcanoes have been dormant for thousands of years but that they can erupt again any day. Now because us humans don't live for that long, some epilepsy may remain dormant for our whole life and others are not so lucky. I've read a few stories when the people have gone 20 years with no seizures or medication and then bang they start having seizures again and need to be put back on medication – now I'm sure they thought that they didn't have it any more! I myself have gone 7 years (between 7 and 14) without any seizures or meds and then start having them and needing meds again. I recently had another seizure my first since 1997 although that was triggered by a drug so I'm just waiting to see if that's all it was. I use to wear a Medic Alert Bracelet before and are going to start wearing it again when I get my replacement one as I lost my first one – I think everyone who has a history of seizures should wear one cause you just never know when you may have another one

I had febrile and grand Mal

Submitted by Madassin on Tue, 2017-07-18 - 01:43
I had febrile and grand Mal seizures since birth till age 5 (was put on phenobarbital till 5) seizures were gone far as I knew. Then couple years ago I start having black out shaking spells and loss of time. Counselor tells Dr to refer me to neurologist. He does. Neurologist says (without a scan or any test run) that it is an anxiety attack and sends me home. I still have them. What should I do? (Mama of soon to be 6, my 3yro also has seizures febrile so far diagnosed)

I had childhood absence

I had childhood absence seizures when I was 6 until I was 12, I am about to turn 18 and I have had this fear for nearly 6 years. Can they come back, can they manifest in a similar way as before and can they manifest in a more severe way?!
