Feeling strange

Wed, 02/09/2005 - 21:03
I was shocked yesterday when I read about someone's personal experience with auras on epilepsy.com. What was so shocking is that I experinced the EXACT SAME THING! When I was a teen, I distinctly remember having deja vu experiences constantly. I was absolutely convinced that these deja vu's were me remembering dreams from years before, I remember telling someone about it even. I thought that I was dreaming these exact moments- thoughts and circumstances. These were actually simple partial seizures...I didn't know that!! I thought that everything began when I was 20 and waiting tables. Wrong! Now, I know that I was having seizures at least 5 years prior. Thinking about that just kind of freaks me out! Maybe I was having complex partials then too, and no one ever told me.I just feel a little weird now...Heather

Wendy,

I have an appointment in Cleveland at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit in June.  I will be there for anywhere between 5-14 days depending on if I have seizures while being monitored.  blah blah,  but anyway, I read where you said that the EEG's weren't very good and that the 2nd time you went you didnt have a seizure, Have you ever tried the Ambulatory EEG?  My first two EEG's were normal, so it was really hard to diagnose me, but when I had the Ambulatory EEG on I had it for 3 days, and when I would experience the sensation of a seizure I would press a button and it would record so many minutes before, during and so many minutes after,  This was the only way that the doctors were able to diagnose me.  Not only did the test show all 14 of the seizures that I had but it also showed 76 different "seizure activities" that I didnt notice.  I was a little uncomfortable but a wonderful way to record while doing your day to day routine.  Let me know whats going on....

Later. GOD Bless

/I have TLE (Temporal Lobe Epilespy) with"complex-partial seizure activity." All of this was the result of an injury (horse/dogs) that I sustained as a youth, which did not become apparent until later in life while I was at University. I find it very interesting that the subject of "auras" has come up. Reading all of your testimonials makes me realize that each of us experiences "auras" in completely different, but earily similiar, ways. Id like to describe mine, just to "see" what your's are like?(via reply) "Mine" start out: (Sharply) sharp physical reaction outwardly, to "coming up against something familiar" in my mind! For just a short time, "surprised," then comes the forboding realization that: "one of those "things" is coming." For a very brief time, and I know it, I focus on "getting safe" (i.e. register my surroundings and someone that I can"Trust.")>Then, I'm coming out of it. Aware that I've "just had one of those things.">Then I want to know what happened? ( usually "what did I say?")> In recovered state I am aware that my subconscious is always "spotting""Safe" people. It's not paranoia, it's believing that's there's always "Good People" out there!

I read your account like I wrote it. Trying to get somehere safe so if I go full T/C I can come out of it on my own without rolling the para medics. That part about the "something familar" is what most intrigued me. I just now posted some lenthy thoughts on auras, deja vu and what it all means. There is a wierd familiarity about auras I can't explain but I seem to uderstand when I'm having one.  Do your aura's have those qualities?
