Hi, I was first taken in a seizure 30-Jan-00 but never knew what it was, no doc has diagnozed me as having epilepsy. Yet I started taking my medicine 02-Sept-03 (Carbamazipine & Phernobabitone) I have recorded great success nonethelesss. Nowadays it all starts with things like stress at work and I would become uncontrollable and easily irritable. I rarely convulse. I may need advise from members on how best I can have my situation addressed. Expert medical attention still far away from being a reality in my third country ZAMBIA

Hi There.I read this with interest and have to ask -how did you feel about the non-diagnosis,yet were given a med to take? And how did your family/friends feel at you being stressed as you were.Did they help and offer you any advice to alleviate it.Stress and lack of sleep are two major seizure triggers and I think you are aware of that in your post.It sounds as if you certainly must have experienced both.I realise the situation regarding your continent and the difficulties it faces and wish it would offer both more neuro's for patients and a better choice of drug therapies.Phenobarbitone is a very old med and can be addictive if taken over time. I hope that this link offers help and we hear more from you.http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/SEIZURES_AND_EPILEPSY.htm

Thank you Seeker2,Well my family has very helpful in all my struggle with the disease. I have had only some of my friends who turned their backs on me as result, which of cause impacted so negatively on me but with time learnt to live positively. The medicine was welcome as it seemed a reliable alternative. In the early weeks of taking the drugs, I was put on 21 days medical rest as I couldn't bear the drowsy effects and I also developed a skin counter reaction for which I was treated and the drugs temporarily suspended. Stress was imminent, and often I was fatigued easily. I was advised to avoid any physical work that demanded so much on me. The work place became a fearful environment as I knew not when the attack would come, coz I often felt self-guilty after I regained consciousness.Chad
