Hello, I wanted to respond to your email. First I would like to say that I don't want to attack any doctors or medications. Seizures are hard to deal with and I know everyone is doing their best. However, I have great concern with the effects of some of these meds. My son experienced what I felt like more seizures when he was on some of the meds he was on. Depakote and Topamax and something else he was on given that starts with an "A" while he was in the hospital. He was 31/2. He had reactions to those, neurological reactions and a physical reaction to phenobarb. He was having so many a day. He too went from Petit Mal to Grand Mal but this was pre-medication. We didn't even know he was having the Petit Mals. Anyway, we have a natural medicine doctor that is close to our family. She made some modifications to his diet, gave him b6 vitamins/pyradoxine. He hasn't had any seizures since March of last year w/ the exception of 2 febrile seizures in October. The meds just weren't working and they made him like a zombie. If they work, then there worth the trouble but sometimes I really feel like the seizures are side effects of seizure medications sometimes. I could be wrong though. Hope this has been of some help. kph

It is possible that he was on the wrong seizure medication.

Lamictal made them worse for me, jumped me all over the place. When it comes down to it there is no right medication. Whether causing more seizures or not, they all screw us up in some form or fashion.
