Question- Do you know what's going on during your seizures?

Sat, 07/08/2006 - 09:07
I've been told my seizures start as Simple Partials(my aura), then progress to Complex Partials and then to Secondary Generalized grand mals. Most of what I've read says you lose consiousness or have change in thinking during this. I don't. I am fully aware 98% of the time. My thinking isn't compromised. Exp...I was driving a car, felt my aura immediatly put car in park, even took keys out of ignition---my friend kept asking me what I was doing..I knew, but I couldn't speak to explain it to her and immediately had a grand mal....during the grand mal, i was aware of her getting out of the car i think i scared her half to death. Another exp was I at home aura started moved quickly to seizure. I knew my brother was the only one home and in the basement. I made my way to stairs , i couldn't speak and was jerking, i also knew i shouldn't try to walk down stairs. so I sat down by back door and used my jerking arm to repeatly pound on the back door, knowing he would hear and wonder who was at the door. He came up to find me having a sz. Is anyone else aware during their grand mals. It's a blessing i guess, but also a curse. It's so scary becuse you feel and know what's happening to you and you can hear all the panic around you.

Im not consious DURING the seizures but when i sometimes get a warning 30 secs before the seizure i am aware of what is happening and it scares the hell outta me. I just get enough time to shout for help or make it to a safe surrounding like my bed. I know what you mean about the fear, i panic when i get a warning but it isnt till the last few seconds before i go into a full blown seizure that i feel like im straddling both sides of a bottomless canyon and im about to fall down it. I suppose what is even more scary is the fact that i dont have control of my own body. Even after almost 10 years with these Grand Mals there is nothing that terrifies me more.

I'M AWARE OF ALL MY SEIZURES THAT I HAVE. WHEN I'M HAVING THEM I CANT TALK OR MOVE MY BODY BUT I CAN HEAR EVERYTHING AROUND ME. SOME OF MY SEIZURES MAKE ME VERY SCARE BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE I'M NOT GOING TO COME OUT OF IT. BUT SOME I JUST LET IT TAKES IT'S COARSE. MY WIFE AND MY KIDS HAVE SEEN ME GO THROUGH MY SEIZURE THEY JUST MAKE SURE I'M STILL BREATHING AND I'M NO TURNING BLUE.

I didn't think you felt or heard anything once a seizure progressed to a Generalized Tonic-Clonic (Grand Mal Seizure.) I was completely unaware when it was happening. Then unconscious. (and for hours later didn't feel, see or hear anything.) Post-ictal a looooong time. With other seizures, I just get angry because I'm aware of what is going on most times and I'm ticked off that I can't stop it.
