memory loss?

Tue, 10/31/2006 - 11:34
Is it true that everytime we have a seizure we lose part of our memory? I'm 24 and I forget things from the past like a few years ago. I know it's not definetly "old age". LOL my mom gets mad at me cause i can't remember certain things. Does anyone else expirience this?

Like my daughter her cognitive thinking ability has deminished over that last two years. thats another major reason why we elected to have the VNS surgery for her. this is supposed to help with her cognitive thinking. basically it send impulses to your brain so that your not losing bits and pieces of conversations and then later down the road you just forget. scott

I guess it depends on where your seizures are located as to what part of your memory it affects. I started having seizures two years ago. Any part of my memory before that time is fine. I can name any kind of rock and roll trivia you want or tell you about a family vacation when I was a kid, but I would have difficulty telling you what I did with my kids on our vacation last January or where I was two weeks ago. I take lots of pictures and write lots of notes now because I worry as I grow older I won't remember the most important times in my kids' lives, who are now 11 and 14. I am also still good at doing my job, but have trouble remembering appts and lists of things to do. Hope your daughters VNS surgery helps her memory. Kelly

Its terriable to lose your memory but I went through amnesia aprox. 10yrs. ago not so sure on the yrs. give or take a few but anyway I had so many sz. I had to relearn my address and the only people I knew were my husband, two daughters, mother and somewhat my brother's everyone else was either a sorta memory or not at all and I could be just 5 minutes from my home and I might as well have been in another state. I would get so scared my husband gave up on me learning everything all over and sold my 3 wheeler, car and got rid of my horse which I loved but he felt it was dangerous being around it. Anyway just this last spring of '06 I had the VNS inplanted and let me tell you for (me) it does nothing at all for helping my memory actually my memory is getting worse just after I started relearning everything but I do wish you alot of luck with yours the VNS has helped with the control of the seizures somewhat though.
