memory loss?

Tue, 10/31/2006 - 11:34
Is it true that everytime we have a seizure we lose part of our memory? I'm 24 and I forget things from the past like a few years ago. I know it's not definetly "old age". LOL my mom gets mad at me cause i can't remember certain things. Does anyone else expirience this?

I basically "didn't" go to high school.(of course that was when they started screwing with the drugs the most!) I am now 25. But can remember things from before I started having seizures. Strange thing is if you asked me to do something that has not been done recently but I should know I draw a blank. But if I continuosly do something it will stick. Short term such as phone numbers that will not be used more than once or addresses don't exist. The vocab. and spelling is something that seems to be a sympton with many. Feels like the brain knows what it wishes to say but the middle man just can't get the fingers(when typing) or the mouth(when speaking) to say it! DRIVES ME NUTS!

Man oh man is this one of my biggest frustrations! I used to be the 'rock' in my family in terms of remembering things so well. Now, I am only 27, yet I can sit around alongside my aging parents and whine about memory loss. Its terrible. Its been 3 years since my first seizure though, and things have gotten slightly better. Or maybe, I've just gotten used to things! Grand mal seizures are the worst for the memory though... I have whole chunks of my memory surrounding them that is just wiped clean. So I'd say yeah, memory loss is definitely part of having a seizure, and its very offputting. I've woken up months after having a seizure just totally freaked out because I couldn't remember specific things about that particular day - things that I thought I should remember. Things constantly become a blur and get smushed together in my mind. Its very frustrating, but I have no choice but to get used to it I guess.

Grand mal seizures really messed me up too. I wish I had gotten them under control sooner. The docs never seem to volunteer anything, so I found out by (hard!) experience how bad of an insult every seizure is to the brain. I will never be what I was before, but at least now my seizures are stopped (Praise the Lord.) One encouraging thing though, is that they say that neurons can always form new connections. If you use your brain, it helps.
