memory loss?

Tue, 10/31/2006 - 11:34
Is it true that everytime we have a seizure we lose part of our memory? I'm 24 and I forget things from the past like a few years ago. I know it's not definetly "old age". LOL my mom gets mad at me cause i can't remember certain things. Does anyone else expirience this?

Hi. I am 26 and was just diagnosed w/ epilepsy 1 year ago. I have the grand mal seizures. I have A LOT of memory loss. I do not remember meeting people or going places. If I go back to that place - it might jog my memory. It is very embarrassing. Also, my spelling is much much worse. My doctor is amazing. I travel to New York just to see him. Each time you have a seizure - it causes brain damage - which causes memory loss. He said maybe it will get better with time. Mine has not. Good luck with it.

Thanks for replying. I can't remember meeeting people or going places either, but like you said if I go to that place I will remember. Its very frustrating because both of us are in our mid 20's. So, your doctor is in NY? What part of NY? I'm from upstate NY, but I live in Newark because of my job. I was just wondering because i'm trying to find a good doctor. Hey I was gonna ask you, does your seizures seem to worsen during your period time? Mine do, but I only have seizures during my sleep, thank god. Maybe we can help each other, I don't know anyone that has seizures, so it's hard to talk to others that don't understand. Thanks Rhonda! Shelly

I have the exact same problems. I feel like parts of my life were just wiped out of my brain. People around me talk about events that happened in the past and I have no memory of them at all--one that stands out is my family telling me about my having helped save a elderly woman's life in a parking lot---now you would think that would stick with you. I have a real problem finding the correct words to use. My vocabulary and spelling used to be top notch--now they are very poor. I hope yours gets better in time!
