Interpreting EEG results

Wed, 03/14/2007 - 17:12
Does an abnormal EEG automatically mean seizure disorder? Thats what I understood it to mean, but a lot of my family and friends are saying to get a second opinion. I think the doctor is spot on and feel relieved that what was wrong has a name and I wasn't going crazy. Am I correct to think that an abnormal EEG only means seizure disorder if your MRI is fine?

Hi.. re:Am I correct to think that an abnormal EEG only means seizure disorder if your MRI is fine? Ok, let's go through the tests.. An MRI takes x-rays of the brain. http://www.epilepsy.com/articles/ar_1066257900.html However; epilepsy ,in its more than 40 types, exists due to a sudden surge in electrical impulses in the brain that can affect feelings & behaviour. The EEG measures those electrical impulses and, generally, it's epilepsy if/when such a surge is recorded. http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/testing_eeg.html ~sol
