Is My Epilepsy Going Away?

Wed, 01/24/2007 - 14:56
Hi my name is Taylor and I am 19, I have been with Epilepsy since I was 14 or 15 I can’t remember J. I was wondering if there are any statistics on the possibility of out-growing epilepsy. And if I was out growing epilepsy how can I tell? Epilepsy has left me bitter and cold or so I’ve been told, and the older I get. I have become less and less optimistic about life it self. So the very thought about growing out of epilepsy is an interesting prospect.

Hi Taylor, Goood Question. I have GrandMals and was diagnosed at the age of 11 yrs old. when I was a aby My Mother told me I was a sick baby alot like, runing high fevers alot and every time I would run a fever I would have Convulsions that is was that called it back in 1965. There was one fever I had when I was a baby were my Mohter told me that the Phy said they did not know if I was going to make it through the night. So When I was in Grade School I remember getting very upset about math class I was having a very hard time with what ever we were learning and then I remember getting really dizzy like the room was spinning around really fast and could not get my direction so I started to spin around they said in a circle and then pass out and started jerking violentley. When I went to see the Neuro for the first time and they did an EEG with strobe lights I was starting to go into a Seizure then they stopped and then was I diagnosed with epilepsy. The neuro docs said it was most likely that I got brain damage from the High Fevers. They did say that there was a chance that I would out grow it and well once out of grade School they disappeared for over a decade and then they came back when I was in adulthood but only when there was something really bugging me in my mind and it festered for a long time I would have a seizure. I am not a doctor and Iam only telling my story but there is always a chance for u to grow out of it. But if your Brain has been damaged in anyway and out of the blue you started to have Seizures I could not answer yeah u will grow out of that. Iam now 41yrs and still an epileptic and have to stay on meds for the rest of my life and that is ok with me because I do not want to be out on the road driving and kill myself along with taking someone elses life. Or have an attack while driving and I live and they die and go to prison for Manslaughter because Iam not on Meds. I hope what I have said has helped u in anyway, and to let u know u are not alone. See my last Seizure was june,2006 and I was at work this time in the front office and I was upset about something and wham had a seizure and this time had no warning signs what so ever and I pass out right on the concrete floor before anyone could get to me. the damage was a Concussion on the corner of my right forhead thank God I did not bust my head open and also ended up with 2 herniated disks and u know now because of all of this I am preparing for disability. No 2 people are the same. Keep a good eye on yourself with your meds and I hope you out grow everything. Yes, I believe some people can grow out of it, and I pray for u to. U take care and when ever u need to talk sometimes you can find me on epilepsy chat.
