First seizure?

Tue, 05/11/2010 - 01:54

Hi everyone.

I think I had a seizure on Sunday morning. Background info: I'm 17, recently stopped antidepressants (without doctor's opinion because she's a moron and I really can't be bothered with her) and I have an eating disorder.

I'm not quite sure if it was a seizure (or maybe I'm just trying to tell myself that it wasn't) or what caused it. I had eaten just before and it had been over a week of stopping the antidepressant, Citalopram (no noticed withdrawal effects). I got up from the sofa to let the cat in and my vision went black before I had a chance to even let go of the door handle. My stomach kind of started tensing and relaxing quite quickly. I remember hitting my head on the door handle as I tried to get myself balanced. When my vision came back I was crouched on the floor, leaning back against the patio doors.

I haven't told anyone because I don't want them to worry if it turns out to be nothing... And I guess not telling anyone makes it less real. I'm just really worried that it'll happen again (especially at school). And with exams coming up very soon, I'm even more scared than I think I'd usually be.

Any advice would be REALLY appreciated.

It's talk therapy but she was a psychiatric nurse before she became a counsellor.

Well, that's a pretty good start.  Do you trust her enough to REALLY tell her what's happening and what you're going through?  I do hope so.  Keep us posted, please!    Phylis Feiner Johnson   www.epilepsytalk.com

Hi Ami,

I've been off line for a fee days and I'm so sorry I missed your out reach.  I was a counselor for years and used to work with young women your age.  It is a tough time to build trust with all these professionals that all say they want to help you but on the other hand all tell you so many mixed messages and so often seem to tell your family everything.  But here you are safe and confidential.  If you were one of my clients,  I would be terribly hurt if you didn't call me.  I always gave my client's my cell phone numbers for 24 hour contact. We always worked through this kind of stuff.  I hope you have that kind of relationship with your counselor.  Please call them and give them the chance to support you through this.  They can really give you some guildance and help you find the care you need.  If this was a seizure or a reaction to the withdrawl, they need to know.  More can be on the way.  We just lost an 8th grader in our district to a seizure in the bathroom at school, cuz "no one knew".  please honey.  We have walked the walk on this site and we don't play with fire.  Meds can really mess up your system and can completly straighten out your system when they are right for you and prescribed by the right Dr. for the right thing.  Take care of yourself sweetheart,  and let others love you even when you find it hard... One of the reasons why all these people give you so much advice is because they have walked your path.  You don't have to take it,  just listen to it and see where its coming from.
