First seizure?

Tue, 05/11/2010 - 01:54

Hi everyone.

I think I had a seizure on Sunday morning. Background info: I'm 17, recently stopped antidepressants (without doctor's opinion because she's a moron and I really can't be bothered with her) and I have an eating disorder.

I'm not quite sure if it was a seizure (or maybe I'm just trying to tell myself that it wasn't) or what caused it. I had eaten just before and it had been over a week of stopping the antidepressant, Citalopram (no noticed withdrawal effects). I got up from the sofa to let the cat in and my vision went black before I had a chance to even let go of the door handle. My stomach kind of started tensing and relaxing quite quickly. I remember hitting my head on the door handle as I tried to get myself balanced. When my vision came back I was crouched on the floor, leaning back against the patio doors.

I haven't told anyone because I don't want them to worry if it turns out to be nothing... And I guess not telling anyone makes it less real. I'm just really worried that it'll happen again (especially at school). And with exams coming up very soon, I'm even more scared than I think I'd usually be.

Any advice would be REALLY appreciated.

Amibarelyalive.

Be honest with your best friend.  Believe it or not, people WANT to help.  You just have to reach out.  This is  an invaluable lesson I learned in therapy.  Let me know how the talk with your teacher goes...and if she has any recommendations...  Good luck today.   Phylis Feiner Johnson   www.epilepsytalk.com

She just gave the usual advice =/ Go see the GP or nurse... And told me that it was probably a bad idea to just stop taking my antidepressants and not going to see the doctor =/ .... Think I'm just going to wait to see my counsellor next wednesday.

Ami,

You need to at least find a new GP and perhaps a neurologist.  What kind of counsellor do you go to?  Is it talk therapy?  Is she a social worker, a physchologist?

I've been on anti-depressants for centuries.  When I quit once (because it was making me gain major weight), life was hell on wheels.  Please, please, please!  Don't be in denial.  Go see someone.  Ask your best friend to go with you.  I'm sure he'd be happy to help. And don't procrastinate either!  End of lecture.  :-)     Phylis Feiner Johnson   www.epilepsytalk.com
