any help please?

hi, i'm 17 and i've been reading up on epilepsy and everything. i'm not sure what i have, and i was hoping maybe someone could help... i get this thing, usually when i'm about to fall asleep, or when i'm sleep deprived. it doesnt necessarily happen at those times though. its when my whole body starts shaking really violently, usually throwing me out of bed. i stay fully conscious during it, but cannot control it.. i can hear everything around me and see everything, though i'm shaking too much to be able to make stuff out. when this stops, i end up just lying there paralysed. after a few seconds (but it seems like longer) i get my breath back, and soon begin to be able to focus my eyes. it takes a while for me to be able to speak, and even longer to be able to move at all. feeling and ability slowly returns to each of my limbs one after an other, but takes me longest to be able to walk.. even when i can walk, my legs would give way every now and then. i know when its going to happen, so i can scream out to anyone there. it puts me into a state of panic when i know its going to happen, and afterwards, i panic incase it happens again.i went to the doctor, and ended up in hospital, but still no one could tell me what it was. they just said i would grow out of it, and i'm glad to say that they died down, and i didnt get them soo much, but it seems to be flaring up again. the good thing is that sometimes, i'm able to stop it before it starts.if anyone knows anything about this, i'd be very grateful for any information at all.thanks for your time.

hey, i actually first got this when i was 8.. and ended up going in and out of hospital for about 6 years. the most i got out of them was "you'll grow out of it." that seems to be the solution to all problems here.for the minute, i think i'm going to leave it and see what happens. if i get it again, i'll go annoy the doctors again.when you are actually diagnosed with epilepsy, do they put you on medication or anything? like do you need to make any changes or anything? i'm a bit clueless about most of it.thanks for all help and advice though!

hi! hope you're better now...but if not you should go to the doctor before it gets worst and out of control....i am 21 and i have Juvenil Myoclinic Eepilepsy since i was 15, and since then i've been taking drugs mostly rivotril and depakene...this things help to control me... the only difference in your life is that you would have to take pills for a long long time but you will be able to go on with your life as always..anyways every person is different so it's up to you....hope this helps you...velia

hey, thanks. i think it all just scares me, the idea of actually running the risk of having to face reality. like i've lived with this for over 9 years, and havent known what it is and couldnt tell others what it is without a long detailed description. recently i think i've been reassuring myself as i've been able to prevent it from happening a few times.. but if it happens again, i will definately go to the doctor. theres no point in me going now and saying that i havent had one in a while but wanted to check it out. i know, though, that i probably cant avoid it, and shouldnt try because it could just get more dangerous for me, but the next one i have, i'll go to the doctors.do you have to wear a bracelet saying you have epilepsy? i heard someone say that before...sorry for my ignorance about the whole thing. but thanks for your help! :o)
